Returning To Copford’s Masterpiece

We completed the cleaning and conservation of the fantastic scheme of 12th century murals at Copford Church in Essex in 1991.

Nearly 30 years on and the paintings were again showing signs of age though now thankfully mostly heavy deposits of cobwebs, dust and the actions of a very active bat population meaning that surface cleaning was again required. Working from towers the team have spent the last month carefully dusting and stabilising localised areas of flaking.
