Return To Ramsgate

We have finally returned the painting by Ferdinand Platner depicting Our Lady with the Holy Child and the figures of St Augustine and St Thomas of Canterbury to St Augustine's Shrine in Ramsgate.

Both painting and frame were flaking badly and covered by a thick layer of dust, with the very heavily discoloured varnish hiding painted detail and altering colour values considerably.

Cleaning and conservation of the painting and the ornate gilded frame has been undertaken over the past 5 months and the painting has now been relocated in a prominent position within the new visitor centre as part of the HLF-funded project to restore AWN Pugin’s Church.
